Scotch and Soda routine
"Scotch & Soda may well be one of the 10 Best tricks ever, it certainly must be in the top 3 Coin tricks. The best advice I give is that when you buy this trick you might as well kick in an extra $5 and get one of the many books on Scotch & Soda or Dime & Penny. It is a worthwhile investment to get good mileage on something that just set you back $20. Lots of ideas are available and these will create more in your mind.
So you are comfortable with it and can do a copper/silver transposition, and you can make the copper disappear from someone's hand and appear someplace else. Now what? Try this, it is a fast and pretty effect......
The Safe (a story)
Prepare a matchbox by opening the drawer and trimming the top of it at the back (one of the ends) large enough to easily introduce a coin into it. Have 8 or 10 matches with the heads cut off in the box, and put it in your left trouser pocket.
Sit at a table and have a deck of cards nearby.
Show the double sided coin and the shell, put them on your table, shell on bottom, double sider leaning on it with the copper side up. Have the whole copper palmed in your left hand. Say "I want to show you an invention" and reach into your pocket for the matchbox. Slide the copper in the slot in the box but DO NOT DROP IT IN. Bring out the box with the coin under cover of the lid pinched there with your fingers, and slide the drawer open, keeping the coin hidden. Say "I have invented the perfect safety match, you cannot accidently burn anything with it". Take out a headless match and show it, hoping for a giggle. "I don't have the patent yet." Put the match back and close the drawer, letting the coin drop in now. The matches will muffle any sound, or a slight sound will only sound like the matches shifting. Put the box on the table in front of you. Tell the person to choose a face card from the deck. When they give it to you you tell a story based on
a Queen - she is a maid who cannot be trusted a Jack - he is a thief watching your house a King - sends tax collectors
Now you know the gist of the story you will make up.
While they are getting the card pick up the 2 coins (S&S set). Shell is on bottom. In relation to the card chosen say "you have to protect your gold" and point to the copper coin. Then say "the best way is to put it in a safe" and slide the shell from behind the copper to the front, do NOT let it settle over the copper yet. This is easy to do in your fingers. Say "But you have to watch out for (- the card - ) because they are watching your house (- point to the matchbox - ) and they know where your gold is hidden." Now put the copper and shell on the matchbox. Say "they will come along and try to steal/take/tax it!" Put the card on the shell, wiggle a tad and push to lock it in. Put one finger under the card and move it sideways, not showing the face. Say "the gold is not there" and pick up the silver coin, show both sides and put it away. Say "but they didn't get the gold either!!" and show the face of the card, copper is not there. Say "How did I protect my gold? I hid it somewhere else...." Now point to the matchbox and say "...IN THE HOUSE". Let them open it and inspect the copper coin.
Finish
This works well and is adaptable to the situation. If you are caught without a matchbox just use a card. Have copper palmed in left hand and take a card in right, show face, transfer to left hand over the coin and show right palm, then transfer both to right hand and show left palm, then back to left and put it on the table. This is your house. Put the S&S set on the card and cover with another card (or your hand). The copper penetrates the card.
