"Many months ago, I had the opportunity to preview an early draft of Chuck Hickok's Mentalism, Incorporated. But now, as the book is about to come out in just a couple weeks, I do want to echo what others have said.
Chuck's book is a thoughtful "tuition" aimed at a specific market, the corporate venue. This is where the bookers have very specific needs the corporate entertainer needs to precisely fill. This is where the money is to meet the performer's needs. In short, this is where the action is.
Chuck's focused style of writing identifies those needs and fills them. It's not about general audiences at the after-dinner country club. This is specific information a corporate performer will want to hone in on, think about, and ... "incorporate" into his own performance".

"If you're still vacillating about whether or not to spend money on yet another "must have" book, let me assure you that Chuck Hickok's "Mentalism Incorporated" easily falls into that category. If you do -- or have any interest in doing -- mentalism for the corporate market, this book is cheap tuition. Chuck has "been there, done that" for many years in the corporate world, and clearly understands the issues that distinguish it from the more generic entertainment venues.
Yes, there are some great effects in this book (some originals, some adaptations), and these alone would make it a valuable read. But the *real* treasures, the sort of information you're unlikely to otherwise find (except by trial and many errors), is that on the types of demonstrations that play successfully to the business crowd; how to make performances simultaneously both believable and acceptable; the level of preparation necessary to guarantee flawless shows; and how to turn a collection of effects into an act.
Perhaps most importantly, Chuck illustrates by example how a performer's personality establishes a bond with the audience, drives a successful performance, and makes one unique as an entertainer".

"This is a book for anyone who wants to learn how to present a corporate mentalism act that will inspire, entertain and generate happy customers. Chuck's early chapters on presentation and showmanship could stand alone as relevant and extremely helpful advice for anyone who wants to present mentalism before today's corporate audiences. "
-Barrie Richardson

"Mentalism, Incorporated is an excellent book. Chuck's incredible attention to detail assures a total understanding of this lucrative field, and the discussions about what corporate audiences expect from their entertainers is invaluable to anyone thinking about seriously penetrating the market. There's more to corporate shows than just having a slick act, and Chuck tells you everything you need to know to get started. My only complaint is that Chuck waited until now to release Mentalism, Inc. as this book would have saved me about two years of trial and error!"
-John Riggs

There's SO LITTLE (bordering on nothing) in the literature on performing for corporate audiences. Your book is a gold mine of information on a market that I know for a fact a great many of our number are very interested in. You've provided not only a wonderful book, but a great service to the art and the business of mentalism. I think you've got a potential classic on your hands.

Chuck Hickok has written one of the most readable books on mentalism I have ever read. He has also written one of the most important. I was intrigued with the questions he asked himself as a corporate entertainer, such as "why do corporations hire an entertainer for events?" In all my years of performing, it never occurred to me to do this.
His eight guidelines for performing mentalism for corporate audiences (Chapter Three) are worth their weight in gold, and should be memorized and used by anyone contemplating a commercial mentalism act. As if this wasn't enough, Chuck then goes through his entire act, fully explaining the six demonstrations he performs in his 45-minute show. He includes the actual words he uses, and also explains why he says and does the things he does.
This is an advanced course on how to create a commercial act. I saw Chuck perform this show several years ago, and found it fascinating to discover how much the show has evolved and developed over the years. Chuck has thought deeply about every effect, and gives us the benefit of his experience and wisdom, carefully explaining why some things worked, while others didn't. Chuck also includes three bonus demonstrations, which he uses for repeat bookings, or when the booker requests a longer act. I was delighted that he included his memory demonstration. It is both spectacular and believable. My only concern with "Mentalism, Incorporated" is that Chuck has been too generous, and the book will create a number of Chuck-clones.
I believe "Mentalism, Incorporated" will become a mentalism classic.

"Thanks to Chuck Hickok for his wonderful and inspiring new book. While geared to the corporate entertainer, there are many lessons in the book that translate easily to any performer who is seeking to improve his or her ability to: market the act, be client-friendly, and produce a successful performance.
As one who made the decision three years ago to leave my day job and focus on being a corporate entertainer, I can certainly echo John Riggs testimonial about how this book would have saved a lot of time and jump started me. Much of what I eventually learned is here already from a successful speaker and corporate entertainer.......AND, he has shown me more ways to learn and grow.
The routines are certainly time-tested winners and you will love them. Those of you who are not corporate entertainers will find them of value as well. The advice that Chuck gives regarding doing the right things to be successful in this field are even more valuable. On top of that, Chuck writes in a lucid style and has had the wonderful support of other top people in our organization (e.g., Mark Garetz, Doug Dyment, Barrie Richardson, etc.). All in all a great book and highly recommended".
