Purporting to be a picaresque Victorian tome of fanciful ideas to help while away those dreary Autumnal evenings when the communal singing around the piano has lost it’s vim, this book (complete with sumptuous gilt decoration to the end-boards in the manner of a multitude of similar instructional volumes for boys and girls) is an utter joy. Lavishly illustrated and containing detailed instructions on the entirety of Messrs Morgan & West (time-travelling tricksters of prestidigitation) remarkable stage show ‘Parlour Tricks’. Explained in the duo’s unique and entertaining style with wit and panache, this is an incredible feat. In addition to invaluable instruction and insights to a host of effects (as well as Mr Morgan and Mr West’s thoughts on presentation, misdirection and pace) there is a link to the ether wherein resides a full visual presentation of the said act. Superb quality. Sublime instruction. This is a must-have for all enthusiasts of the magical craft.
Highly recommended.
