Smack in the Face by Paul Gordon

If you don't like packet tricks this is not going to convert you. That being said, I do like, and this is a nice little example of the genre.. It isn't too difficult, although I'm not sure I'd agree that it only uses a single, standard sleight; it is an extension of a standard sleight. And therein lies a problem - the blurb describes the cards as "top quality", but to me they seem to have a plasticky finish which makes them somewhat slippery. This makes the extended sleight slightly more difficult than it needs to be. I can do the same extended sleight with Bicycle stock without any worries about flashing, but cannot say the same for included cards. Of course a little practice should overcome this. But it is for this reason that I gave this 4 out of 5 rather than 5. Couple of extra things - the tutorial includes an alternate handling at the end of the kicker which I prefer to the one shown in the performance demo video. And Merchant of Magic include a link to a (downloadable) video of a few basic card sleights. This includes the sleight that is the basis of the extended sleight used in the trick for those not familiar with it (since Mr Gordon's tutorial rather assumes you already know it)

This is an excellent little trick to perform as part of a close-up routine. Great for beginners, but also for those wishing to step-up from self-working type tricks. I managed to get to grips with the skill needed but it really needs a considered practice regime to make it polished (for me anyway). The cards are well made and there is plenty of guidance and tuition included to set you on your way. A worthy addition to any close-up set.
