White Star - By Jim Critchlow
- Product Review (submitted on 29 October 2016):
Jim Critchlow's White Star is an outstanding, superb effect. It's one of the few effects I've purchased (among hundreds) where the instruction manual was as valuable to me as the effect itself. The ideas in the book, which could be sold as a stand-alone item, are sophisticated and brilliant. Since this has been thoroughly explored by other reviewers, I'm simply going to join their fine comments and add a few quick thoughts:
1. this is true parlor magic at it's best. It's the kind of effect that stands on its own, should be savored, and will be discussed afterwards. If you're doing walk-around at a restaurant, leave this home.
2. for my "props", I use a piece of weathered sea glass and a coin. It adds the element of one went down with the ship, while the other became a lucky token for a survivor. It plays nicely.
3. I put the whole outfit inside a pretty cigar box, affixing a titanic picture on the cover and a newspaper article to the inside. It helps with the presentation and adds a solemn touch to the entire proceeding.
