The Next Step After Self Working Card Tricks.

Sleight of Hand for Beginners.

Starting to learn card magic tricks can be a daunting prospect. Many magicians start by learning a range of self working card tricks to build up their range of magic tricks, and to allow them to learn presentation and performing skills.

The problem:

  • How do you take the next step, and begin to learn how to do sleight of hand with playing cards?
  • How can you take your magic to the next level of deceptiveness?

Well, for hundreds of years the art of card magic has been build on the foundations of just a handful of fundamental 'moves'. These sleights are a way of bemusing, confounding and IMPRESSING your audience. Master them and your magic will be sensational. Unlock them and you will be able to perform almost any card trick ever invented!

We've put together a three month course with an incredible set of DVDs to help you learn these all important moves. Pick up our special deal and you'll receive 4 discs stuffed to the brim with tuition on:

  • FOURTEEN Double lifts
  • TWENTY FIVE card controls false counts
  • Advice on how to practice, uniformity of action and fixing a mistake to name a few.
  • Expert tuition on the Elmsley count
  • EIGHT variations on the Elmsley count
  • FIVE alternative counts with cards
  • TWENTY ONE tricks that utilise these techniques

We cover all of these key skills in this enormous set.

The collection gives you the core training magicians receive when they have personal tuition at the Merchant of Magic.

The set has been designed to give you all the training you need on the core sleights used in card magic. You will learn the techniques, but that's only the start. Once you have the moves, you get a range of powerful, professional card magic routines that are now unlocked to you, as you have the 'moves' needed to perform them.

How to use the course.

You will receive 4 magic training DVD's. We suggest that you focus on just one section each month. Run through the moves until you remember the process. Then drill them with small practice session every day. Just 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening EVERY DAY. You will be amazed at the progress you make.

Staged Training Support

As well as the 4 DVD's you will receive an invitation to register free for the training support program. Register using your order number, and we will coach you, via email, video, and instant downloads, over the three months of the course. We will check on your progress, correct mistakes you may have developed and provide you with additional tips and advice on getting these techniques practiced until they are prefect.

'I am on my 29th day of your Sleight of Hand For Beginners Course, and so far it has been well worth the investment of time and money (feel free to quote me).

When I started the course I was under the mistaken belief that I could already do an Elmsley Count fairly well, however, in only a month my Elmsley Count has improved tremendously. It has certainly shown me the strength of this style of structured learning, a style I will carry on well after this course is over.
' - Chris Jones

'Been looking at the first DVD this morning and excited to get the first Months techniques mastered, and get my magic going now I have a study plan. You have no idea how long I've been searching for a training plan as I seem to get bewildered and waste my practice time when I'm left to my own devices.' - Wayne Mason

'Just what I have been looking for. I found it very confusing to know where to start learning sleights. I like the way the course has given me a timetable to learn the material. I'm working through each section slowly. Well done Merchant of Magic' - Tim Stanmore

'Great idea guys. I already use an Elmsley count, but having so many ways to use it has made me start performing it again.' - Mark Williams

'I've spend to much money on magic tricks over the years, but just keep jumping from the next new trick to the next. This is a great way to stay focused, learn each effect correctly, and build a working magic act. Highly recommended' - David Snatten

'I am one of those few people who has been working through the DVDs one at a time and I have been very impressed by how well this course has worked for me. For example, I thought I could do the Elmsley Count before month one, but by the end of it I was amazed how much my technique had improved.

The entire course has been very beneficial, and has given me a template for learning sleights in the future. I will be recommending the course to all the magicians I know who would benefit from it.'

Nothing 'Sleight' about it! Review by Giles H
Satisfaction 100%
This was a robust and in-depth introduction to 'proper' magic. Recommended to me by the helpful folk at Mom and then followed up, not only with suggestions, but invitations to record the moves and then have a critique by a professional magician. Of course aimed at the beginner, but I suspect also useful to those who have a particular issue with a sleight). The additions of routines made the practice worthwhile. I had looked at the Elmsley count online, tried it, failed and decided it was too advanced for me. In just a few weeks, I now have a solid technique and am attracting comments and even invitations to perform a trick or two. Thoroughly recommend the course, the approach and the support.

I am finding the course absolutely brilliant, although a tiny feedback maybe to have some form of routine as part of the initial skill learning? More importantly, however, the Elmsley count was totally beyond me, until I bought the course.

The Course DVD's arrived and I'm very pleased with them. I have had the course for a month and as instructed only opened the first package. I have never tried to perform magic before of any kind so as a complete novice was not sure what to expect. What I can tell you is there is so much material in the first package that I think it would be impossible to learn everything in one month. Don't let that put you off you will certainly come back to the first package again so it's not something that will live on your shelf gathering dust. Thank you Merchant of Magic and Dominic. I'm off to open package no.2 and buzzing at the thought of what lies within.

I wanted to wait until I was at least one week in to the course before I made my mind up on it, and so far, I'm thoroughly impressed. I've been trying my hand ad magic for the best part of a year now, however I've not been able to really build up any real momentum, and often find myself getting bored whenever I hit a a bump on the road.

With the Sleight of hand for Beginners DVD Training Course, and the methods of practising techniques explained by Dominic in the welcome letter, I can already feel myself becoming a little more confident. Cards have always something I have stayed clear of, I've never really been able to get to grips with them (no pun intended) But starting with the Elmsley Count, and working on the core move stage by stage has been really helpful.

It also helps that the team at the merchant of magic offer fantastic support for anyone on this programme via email, It's only been a week and I have received a number of emails offering support, and extra tips.

Nothing is overwhelming about this. You see noticeable effects! As long as you stick to the training, which is ONLY 10 mins in the morning and evening.

So far pretty good, enjoying it and making progress.
The only thing I would have preferred a little different, being a slow learner (!) is this. The first DVD teaches you the main sleight, but then, instead of teaching you a trick or short routine, (which would be a good idea for practice & getting familiar with the moves in context), you are taught all the variations of the handling, which kind of confuses things while you are still getting to grip with the sleights. I feel would be better if it was organised as - teach move - incorporate into trick - teach variation - incorporate variation into another trick, etc...Now, what do I win? ;-)

I do card magic and was attracted to this offer as it seems to be very well structured and whilst I am far from being a beginner I'm sure the discipline of working through the course in a structured manner will be of great value.

Unfortunately, I haven't yet had time to take a look at the DVD's but will do so over the coming week end and then let you have my opinion consequently, I have given the course a middle number because it is necessary to submit the form.

So far this is an excellent dvd. I would go as far to say the best piece I have purchased from you so far. I am still on month one and not opening month two for at least 3 weeks. The way the elmsley count is taught is extremely clear and easy to follow. I picked it up instantly and have practiced on a few friends and not one of them could spot any discrepancies.

Liam is without doubt my favorite magician to learn from. Everything he explains is crystal clear and his demonstrations are excellent.

If month two is on the same level as month one, then I am going to find it very hard to hold back.

Thanks David

The course is first class. I started well with the exercises, however, due to holiday breaks , I am finding things a bit slow. I do have a family member who is doing the same Elmsley system, and attends Blackpool every year, so we can check each other out. I will be missing 2 weeks in September, but will catch up later.

Can not recommend enough for beginners and for the price and support it's a WIN WIN situation. Just as an afterthought "what is he hiding under his thumb?". Anyhow congratulations to MofM for getting this together, superb work and thanks for all your great service and support.
