"Fooled me so badly!!! I'd perform this to others just to entertain myself!" - Zee J. Yan
"I'm on my way to the store to pick up some new jeans because this fooled the pants off me!" - Richard Sanders
"The perfect trick for those late-night magic jams. A real fooler!" - Benzi Train
Every once in a while, a magician comes up with a trick so good, they refuse to share it with anyone but themselves. Enter Think Nguyen's masterpiece, The Surprise. After months of our begging and pleading that this needed to be shared with the magic community, Think has finally allowed us to publish his most closely guarded secret.
Using a borrowed and freely shuffled deck, this is the most impossible Card At Any Number we've ever seen. Describing it in ad copy just doesn't do it justice, so we're not even going to try. Seriously, go watch the trailer.
What you get:
No difficult sleight of hand to learn
No arts and crafts
No stack or memory work
Nothing to add or take away
And definitely NO MAGNETS
If you're the type of magician that relies on self-working gimmicks as a crutch, this effect is definitely not for you. Yes, Think reveals all the secrets to performing The Surprise, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.
When you combine Think's methods with traditional sleights, congratulations, you've just discovered the formula for creating genuine magician foolers.
The most hands-off Card At Any Number, this is The Surprise.
"A well-constructed effect with three powerful revelations that will have your volunteers scratching their heads for a long time!" - Bryan Miles
"The Surprise is a solid effect and provides great techniques that can be applied to many other effects." - Karl Hein
"Well, after watching this trick, I've come to the conclusion that either Think sold his soul to the devil, or Think IS the devil." - Harapan Ong
"No way that is possible! This is absolutely gorgeous, so clean and fair that I already watched ten times and I got fooled every single one of them." - Daniel Prado
''One of the greatest creators/performers of strong modern card magic.'' - Ollie Mealing
"Think is too humble in calling his creations card magic, when really they categorise as card wizardry." - Timon Krause
Video shows straight out, would be more realistic if had shown other out.
Video makes as if straight to card every time, then when you purchase is probably 20 to 25% of the time.
Feel video gives false impression of trick.
Right from the start you will need to try this out before you judge it. It works and blows people away. You might miss a few times though and there are 'outs' so not for magicians who panic at the thought of brushing an effect aside if it falls flat and moving on. If you are confident performing, you will love this.
Frankly not impressed. Whilst I wasn't expecting some amazing piece of inside information, I also wasn't expecting the reveal that came with this video...that really WAS the suprise! Can't say too much withoout giving it away. but I really can't recommend this to anyone.
I have to say when I started watching the explanation video my reaction was "oh that is a bit of a let-down". The trailer seemed fixed and I felt a bit cheated. BUT the more of the video I watched the more I learned and the more I became interested in performing it. I practiced for 5-10 minutes before going out and then tried it at my usual venue. DAMN I felt like a real wizard. It really worked. I say it like this because it's not a guaranteed success every time. Although there are no difficult moves to perform with the cards, the psychology of the trick is not easy (hence why I gave it a 3 for difficulty and suggested its not for beginners). I can imagine many magicians being a bit scared to perform it. Don't be! There is a lot of content on this explanation that is useful for this trick and general performance concepts. One thing I would have liked to have seen - particularly considering its not 100% guaranteed to work - is more live performances from the creator. I believe him when he says he hits it 99% of the time, but just seeing a bunch of live performances would have added so much more value and strength to the product.
If you're thinking about purchasing, just go for it. It's worth the money and if you can grasp the techniques required, this is a game-changing side to the art of performing magic.
